Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool stars 'feel totally robbed' amid title uncertainty

Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool squad will be feeling “totally robbed” amid the uncertainty surrounding the rest of the Premier League season.

The Reds are well on their way to winning a first title in 30 years this campaign, but the outbreak of the coronavirus has disrupted global football.

All Premier League fixtures have been suspended until April 4 to slow the spread of COVID-19, but it is not yet known whether sport will resume beyond this date.

It means Liverpool are currently in limbo; not knowing whether they will be able to play the remainder of their matches in front of their supporters, or whether they’ll be able to finish the season at all.

Alan Smith reckons Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool squad will be feeling “totally robbed”

Jurgen Klopp released a statement last week in which he praised the Premier League’s decision and called on fans to stay safe.

But Alan Smith reckons deep down the German, and his Liverpool players, will be feeling “robbed” amid the uncertainty.

“With nobody quite knowing how this Premier League season is going to be handled, Jurgen Klopp and his players must feel totally robbed,” Smith wrote in the Evening Standard.

“The best team in the land by quite some distance might not be able to lift the trophy in the way that they dreamed.”

He added: “Now, uncertainty reigns, rather than the Reds. When, if ever, will this campaign get finished? How do the authorities handle such an unprecedented situation?

“Whatever happens now, though, the gloss has gone. If Liverpool do eventually get crowned, it’s going to prove a massive anti-climax, so I can’t help but feel sorry for Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and all who deserve every plaudit going for a magnificent effort. Their consistency of performance has been something to behold.”
