Jung Joon-young scandal: K-pop singer arrested after admitting to filming secret sex videos

K-pop singer Jung Joon-young has been arrested following allegations he posted sexually explicit videos of women that were filmed without their consent.

South Korean police issued an arrest warrant for the 30-year-old singer hours after he apologised to his victims at a hearing.

Jung, who was questioned by police last week about the allegations, admitted to secretly filming himself having sex with women and sharing the footage online during 2015-16. He is accused of taping 10 or more encounters against the alleged victims’s knowledge.

In a statement released late on Tuesday 12 March, the singer-songwriter and presenter admitted to filming the women without their consent, “and while I was doing so I didn’t feel a great sense of guilt”.

“Throughout the rest of my life, I will repent on my immoral and illegal acts that constitute crimes,” he said, according to the BBC.

The case against Jung was reportedly discovered during a separate police investigation into K-pop superstar Seungri – who was reportedly a member of Jung’s group chat.

Seungri, from the group Big Bang, quit the boy band just two days before the news about Jung emerged, after being charged with soliciting prostitutes for VIP members and potential investors of his business.

Seungri, 28, said he retired to protect the honour of his band and talent agent. He denies the charges against him and has promised to co-operate with police.

According to reports from South Korean media, both singers have been banned from leaving the country.
