Judi Dench, star of Cats, has once again played a cat in a coronavirus-inspired hand washing video.

Let’s take a moment to let that sink in.

The actress is the latest in a line of celebrities to post videos to social media responding to the virus. Heidi Klum and Hugh Jackman are two more recent examples.

Appearing alongside writer and ex-Tory MP Gyles Brandreth, Judi is heard reciting ‘The Owl and the Pussy-cat’ poem by Edward Lear while the pair lather up.

Which of course means pussy jokes galore.

After saying from memory the first few lines of the poem (Gyles certainly makes a meal of saying: ‘what a beautiful pussy you are’), Judi begins purring and nuzzling her friend.

‘Wash your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds and you too will get the “purr” of satisfaction,’ surmised Gyles at the end of the clip, posted to his Twitter.

‘A purr and good health too.’

We have absolutely no idea what they’re on about. But we can’t stop watching.

Judi’s appearance on social media follows news that she has been nominated for a worst actress Razzie for her performance in the Tom Hooper-directed Cats.

She first heard about the nod on Radio 4’s Front Row earlier this week.

Her priceless reaction? ‘Oh, am I? That would be good! As far as I know, that’s a first!’
