Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich has hit out at referee Daniel Siebert after he was booked for a stamp on Jadon Sancho in the German Supercup.

Second-half goals from Paco Alcacer and Jadon Sancho sealed a convincing 2-0 victory for Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park.

Sancho produced a scintillating performance, causing Bayern’s defenders problems all night, and Kimmich appeared to take out his frustrations on the English forward with a shocking challenge.

Just six minutes after Sancho doubled Dortmund’s lead, the German stepped on his opponent’s leg as the ball was out of play on the touchline.

Asked about the incident, Kimmich told DAZN: ‘It was an unfortunate situation. I wanted to get the ball and he put his foot in.

‘But I did not kick him and I was angry that I was given a yellow card, because that was not my intention.

‘If I had seen red, then I would have romped.’

Sancho was pictured with bandaging around his ankle after the final whistle and Dortmund will be concerned about the youngster’s fitness ahead of the new season.

Despite missing the incident, Bayern manager Niko Kovac jumped to the defence of Kimmich.

‘Joshua did not do this on purpose,’ he said.

Sancho shared an upbeat post with his followers following Dortmund’s defeat, but the club are yet to provide an update on the severity of his injury.

The England international was substituted five minutes after Kimmich’s challenge and replaced by Jacob Bruun Larsen.
