Born: August 20, 2005; Joliet

Died: January 8, 2021; Chicago

Joseph M. Owen, age 15, a lifelong resident of Plainfield, IL, passed away on Friday, January 8. 2021 at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago from complications of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). He was born August 20, 2005 in Joliet, IL.

Beloved son of Anthony J. “Tony” and Ann (nee Felcan) Owen, both of Plainfield, loving brother of the late Anthony E. Owen, adored grandson of Rose Felcan of Itasca, IL and Gary (Lois) Owen of Demotte, IN, special great-grandson of the late Wilmer and Mary Keesecker, dear nephew of Robin (Jim) Lange; Steven Owen, Sienna (Dennis) Taylor, Richard Owen and Julie Henson, fond cousin and friend of many.

Joseph grew up in Plainfield and where he was homeschooled. When he was younger, Joseph participated in many MDA activities and played baseball with the Miracle League of Joliet. He enjoyed spending time with his mom and brother, watching movies, and cheering on the Chicago Blackhawks. He enjoyed Minecraft and videogames at home. Joey had a heartwarming smile and was his own person.

Joey’s family would like to thank the amazing doctors, nurses and staff at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago and The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) for all their assistance and support.

Memorial donations may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, www.mda.org or to Joey’s family.

A celebration of Joseph’s life will take place on Wednesday, January 20, 4 p.m. at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 15219 S. Joliet Rd., Plainfield, IL.

After the conclusion of the memorial service, Joseph’s family will receive visitors until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment: Private.
