Jose Mourinho's silent verdict on Amazon intrusion after boss agrees to Tottenham terms

Jose Mourinho has agreed to walk around miked-up at Tottenham as part of the terms of his appointment as head coach.

Chairman Daniel Levy controversially agreed to give Amazon Prime behind-the-scenes access to the club this season to film a documentary to be screened next year.

The deal, believed to be worth around £10m to Spurs, was signed before those involved realised how difficult the season was going to prove.

And the terms of the contract meant that the new manager also had to climb on board with the full-access arrangement.

It is not the sort of intrusion you would necessarily expect Mourinho to tolerate given his history of abrasive dressing room relationships over the years.

As a result, he was quizzed about whether he was happy about the intrusion shortly after his official unveiling at the club’s training ground on Thursday.

His silent response spoke a thousand words.

Putting his finger to his lips, he opened up the pocket of his tracksuit trousers to reveal a small black box – one that could easily fit in the palm of his hand – with wires protruding from every angle. He then tucked it back away again, saying nothing.

Presumably, Amazon have got the message.

Tottenham are not the first football club to partner with a streaming network to offer a behind-the-scenes look at their operation.

Sunderland worked with Netflix to document their first season in League One in a series entitled ‘Sunderland ’Til I Die’.

Manchester City, similarly to Tottenham, allowed Amazon’s cameras to get a never-before-seen look at goings on at their training ground and beyond.

That campaign culminated in Premier League glory, though – a far cry from the dismal start to the season which the American company have captured at Tottenham.
