Jose Mourinho says Manchester United “have to win” the Europa League this season if their campaign is to be considered to a success.

But he added that securing a top four finish would be “a big achievement” for his former side.

Mourinho was making his debut as a pundit for Sky Sports in a role he has pledged to fulfil until a new managerial job comes up.

And speaking ahead of United’s with another of his former clubs Chelsea , he outlined what should be United’s ambitions for the season.

“Europa League, if you a team like Manchester United , you have to win,” he said.

“In the Premier League, obviously the dressing room must feel that they can win the title.

“If they don’t feel it, they are in trouble. But finishing in the top four would be a big achievement for them.”

Mourinho had earlier said that United don’t have a chance of winning the league this season, claiming that a Manchester City B team would have more of a chance than their rivals or Sunday’s opponents Chelsea.

When asked how many sides will contest the title, he repled: “Four. Manchester City , Tottenham , Liverpool and Manchester City B team.

“Today, even if one team plays magnificently or has a fantastic result, I don’t believe the title is possible.”

Fellow pundit Gary Neville added: “Manchester United can’t win the title and I don’t think Chelsea can either.
