Jose Mourinho appeared to have his mojo back at his opening conference with Tottenham and had the perfect response when asked why he’s gone back on his promise to Chelsea supporters by managing their London rivals.

Spurs confirmed on Tuesday evening that Mauricio Pochettino had been relieved of his duties after five years in the hot seat and Mourinho was announced as his successor the following morning.

In 2015, during his second spell at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho insisted he would never manage Tottenham out of respect for Chelsea fans.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy first approached Mourinho back in 2007 over the prospect of managing the Blues, but the Portuguese was not interested at the time.

‘Yes. I couldn’t go. I couldn’t train in England for two years,’ he explained four years ago.

‘I would not take the job because I love Chelsea supporters too much.’
