Jose Mourinho explains why he was finding his Sky Sports debut so difficult

Jose Mourinho made his Sky Sports debut after being signed up as a pundit for the new Premier League season.

But he admitted it was a difficult introduction to life behind the microphone as part of Sky Sports’ first Super Sunday of the campaign.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss was forced to cover his two previous clubs on his first appearance – and he was also back at Old Trafford for the first time since his sacking.

Mourinho was given the boot by the Red Devils last December and conceded it wasn’t the “easiest day for me” as he started his stint behind the camera.

Speaking early in the show, Mourinho said: “Two of my previous clubs. The first time back at Old Trafford isn’t the easiest day for me.”

Jose Mourinho admitted it was tough covering two former clubs

Despite it being a difficult occasion for the Portuguese manager, he quickly settled into his new role and delivered a scathing assessment of his two former clubs.

He did not back either United or Chelsea as potential Premier League title contenders – and could not resist a dig by naming Manchester City “B” as more likely to win the top prize.

“Four. Manchester City , Tottenham , Liverpool and Manchester City B team,” Mourinho responded when asked how many sides can win the title.

“Today, even if one team plays magnificently or has a fantastic result, I don’t believe the title is possible.”

His Sky Sports debut was also his first time back at Old Trafford

United finished sixth in the Premier League last season after their season got off to a miserable start under Mourinho.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are entering their first season with Frank Lampard at the helm and face United at Old Trafford in his opening game.

Gary Neville, now an experienced figure on Sky Sports, agreed with Mourinho’s assessment that both sides cannot win the title this year.

Neville added: “Manchester United can’t win the title and I don’t think Chelsea can either.

“I think United would snap your hands off now if you offered them fourth. I think they are in a battle with Chelsea and Arsenal for that position.

“I think Tottenham, Liverpool and City are well ahead.”
