Jose Mourinho was tight-lipped on the future of Christian Eriksen after he picked up the Man of the Match award during Tottenham’s 2-2 draw at Norwich.

The Dane started in a Premier League contest for the first time since 3 November and impressed, curling in a free-kick in the second half at Turf Moor.

Eriksen’s contract expires at the end of the season and there has been plenty of speculation over his future, with a move away from Spurs appearing the likeliest outcome.

The 27-year-old was heavily linked with a transfer over the summer after saying he was interested in a new challenge, and he has only made eight Premier League starts this campaign after apparently becoming unsettled in north London.

After a positive return to the starting line-up, Spurs boss Mourinho was asked about Eriksen’s future.

‘I don’t want to speak about it, because I speak with him, we are so open with each other because we trust each other in the sense that we keep to ourselves,’ said the Portuguese.

‘Obviously I share with my boss, Christian knows that, every conversation we have I have to share with my boss, but it’s just between us, so I don’t want to say much.

‘The only thing I can say is that he is trying to help the team like he did today, I’m happy with his Man of the Match.

‘I think Christian was very good.’

There is still the possibility that Eriksen will extend his stay at Tottenham and that appears to be what Mourinho would like to happen.

The Spurs manager told Sky Sports earlier this month: ‘The only thing I will say about Christian is that I want him to sign a new contract. Apart from that I won’t say anything else.’

The former Chelsea boss offered another cryptic update on Boxing Day after Spurs’ win over Brighton, saying: ‘The only thing I can tell you is that I know his future, but I’m not going to be the one to speak about his future.

‘It has to be him to speak about his future when he makes the decision to speak about his future.’
