Jose Mourinho admits "sad" Tottenham have "problems" after defeat by Brighton

Jose Mourinho admitted Spurs were “sad” and have “problems” after their lame loss at Brighton.

A 1-0 defeat condemned Mourinho’s side to successive Premier League defeats in four days after Leandro Trossard’s early opener.

Spurs have now won just twice in nine League games to lie 11 points behind leaders Manchester City.

Mourinho was missing injured skipper Harry Kane and deputy Gareth Bale was subbed after 61 minutes.

Mourinho said: “We didn’t start well and after conceding the goal nothing improved.

“My feeling was the team was a bit sad. The performance was not very good, but a victory doesn’t put me in paradise and a defeat doesn’t put me in hell.

“Now we are in a difficult moment with results, injuries and self-esteem.

“When we concede a goal immediately in the beginning I think the team was immediately struggling.

“But I saw a different team with a different spirit in the second half.

“Sooner or later we are going to get over these problems.”

Brighton’s win was their first home win in 15 Premier League games at the Amex Stadium since beating Arsenal in June 2020 – 225 days ago.

It ensured seven points from their last three League games and leaves Albion seven points above the drop zone.

It was fully deserved as Pascal Gross also hit the post and Aaron Connolly had a goal-bound shot cleared by Toby Alderweireld late on.

“It feels special for us. We had a lot of chances.“

Potter, whose side have kept three straight clean sheets in the top-flight, said: “I thought from the start of the game we were brave, aggressive and scored a really nice goal.

“We reduced the opposition to not too much.

“I am delighted for the three points but we had to fight for them and we’ll have to fight for every three points from now until the end of the season.

“I don’t have to answer questions about our home form for a bit so that is nice as well.

Spurs did not include defender Serge Aurier in their squad amid reports the defender stormed out recently.
