Jonny Evans issues Leicester rallying cry after Carabao Cup loss to Aston Villa

Jonny Evans says Leicester’s stars cannot afford to be downcast for long after their heartbreaking Carabao Cup semi-final exit.

Leicester’s second leg at Aston Villa looked set to go to penalties until sub Trezeguet popped up with a stoppage-time winner from Ahmed Elmohamady’s cross.

It condemned the Foxes’ ex-Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers to his first defeat in 33 domestic cup matches despite the visitors levelling 18 minutes from time.

Evans has now urged Leicester’s squad to get their heads up as they bid for Champions League qualification plus FA Cup glory with a home fifth round tie next against either Coventry or Birmingham.

The third-placed Premier League side return to action at home to Chelsea on Saturday as they target a top four finish.

Northern Ireland defender Evans,32, assessed: “Semi-finals are a big game for us and it’s not the result we wanted.

“We showed great composure to get back in game and we felt comfortable.

“They’ve got one chance at the end and, to be fair, he’s put in a really good ball, and they’ve scored a good goal.

“But we’ve got the FA Cup, another cup competition that hopefully we can progress in.

“Every game for us towards the end of the season’s a big game.
