Jonathan Ross couldn’t help but make a little dig at Simon Cowell at The Masked Singer launch on Thursday.

The comedian was joined by Davina McCall, Ken Jeong, and Joel Dommett as they spoke ahead of the show, which will air in January 2020 – although Rita Ora, who is also a judge on the talent show was absent from the first-look screening.

At the launch presenter, Joel exclaimed that he couldn’t imagine anyone turning the show off.

‘I can’t imagine anyone turning this on, on ITV and not liking it. I can’t imagine turning it off,’ he began.

Although Jonathan couldn’t help but poke fun at X Factor: The Band as he joked: ‘Simon Cowell will turn it off.’

Heading over to UK waters for the first time, viewers have already been given a first tease of the six characters, which the celebs will embody to hide their real identities.

The intricate costumes are deliberately designed to hide or distort distinguishing features which include body shape, colour, race and gender, which could all be giveaways to who they really are.

For our first foray into the series, eight of the 12 characters are: Unicorn, Fox, Monster, Chameleon, Daisy, Octopus, Duck and Queen Bee.

When each singer is knocked out, their true identity will be revealed – and the judges and the viewers at home will see how good their guessing skills are.

All we can kind of tell from the trailer is that the Queen Bee and the Fox are both women… but that’s about it.

‘I’m so excited to be part of this incredible panel, bring it on!’ Rita enthused. ‘I’m a huge fan of The Masked Singer, it’s such a fresh and original show.

‘I can’t wait for it to come to the UK and to get started – it’s going to be so much fun.’

‘I love this show! I’m so excited and I can’t wait to join Rita, Jonathan and the inimitable Ken on the panel and see just what amazing costumes and performances our celebrities will be bringing to the show,’ Davina added.

We’re ready for this to take over our lives.

The Masked Singer UK launches in January 2020 on ITV.
