Jonathan Ross is a well-travelled man of many stories, as illustrated with a recent anecdote about pufferfish.
The TV veteran tried the delicacy while visiting Japan, and claims he almost died afterwards.
In case you didn’t know, a single pufferfish contains enough tetrodotoxin to kill 30 adult humans.
Sounds…. delicious?
The 56-year-old told TV Times magazine: ‘I had one meal in Japan I want to tell you about, because it’s a meal that nearly killed me.
‘It was fugu, a blowfish – I had a blowfish feast of 10 courses.’
‘The toxins near the female reproductive organs for a blowfish can kill you,’ he explained. ‘So they have to cut it just enough to make your lips tingle.’
Are memories of that famous episode of The Simpsons where Homer tries pufferfish flooding back? Us too…
Anyway, despite his rather dramatic statements, Jonathan wasn’t affected by the poisonous substance.
More food talk ensued, as The Masked Singer judge revealed his dream dinner party guest list.
‘Everyone always puts Stephen Fry on this kind of list, and there’s a good reason for that,’ he said.
‘I’d also invite the American filmmaker David Lynch, Lady Gaga, David Tennant, and Ruth Jones, as it’s important to have a glamorous, funny lady at the table.’
