Jon Snow has said he is ‘delighted’ to have become a father again at the age of 73 with wife Precious Lunga.

The Channel 4 newsreader and Precious, 46, welcomed a son via surrogate, with Jon confirming the couple’s baby joy to the PA news agency.

He said the pair, who have been married since 2010, feel ‘doubly blessed’ over their new arrival, after facing difficulties when it came to starting a family together.

Jon said in a statement: ‘In our desire to seal our now eleven years of marriage with a baby, my wife suffered numerous medical setbacks and miscarriages.

‘Consequently, we will always be deeply grateful to our surrogate who carried our embryo to term.’

Jon added: ‘Amid these challenging times, we feel doubly blessed to be able to celebrate our good fortune.’

The veteran news anchor is also dad to two daughters from his previous relationship with human rights lawyer Madeleine Colvin, who he was with for 35 years.

He later married for the first time at 62 years old, tying the knot with academic Lunga, who is 27 years his junior, in the Caribbean.

Known for being notoriously private when it comes to his personal life, Jon didn’t share details of their big day at the time, instead confirming ‘some time’ after their wedding: ‘Yes I have got married, but I have absolutely no interest in discussing my private life.’

It’s believed Jon and Lunga welcomed their baby on March 2.

Very Hard Questions host Jon, who is an active Twitter user, is yet to address the arrival of his son on social media.

Last year, Jon – along with a whole host of celebs including Matt Lucas and Davina McCall – was seen surprising a couple who hosted their own wedding at home in lockdown via a virtual ceremony.
