Joleon Lescott explains why Premier League season cannot be cancelled

Lescott has worn the shirt of Wolves, Everton, England, Manchester City, West Brom, Aston Villa and AEK Athens with distinction.

Yet it was his part in the last gasp cliffhanger under Roberto Mancini in 2012 which tells him that you cannot draw a line under this season.

“It was a constant battle to prove myself under Mancini and at times I didn’t feel like I got a fair crack of the whip under him,” he said.

“If the footage of that last game summed him up – he was just swearing at the lads all the way through, hammering everyone until that goal – it shows you can’t just draw a line.

“That says to me how can you not finish this season? Waiting until it is safe to play is the only, only fair way to do this.”

Joleon Lescott will play alongside teammates Shaun Wright-Phillips and Fabrice Muamba in the final of the NHS Charities Together COVID-19 Urgent Appeal supporting heroic NHS staff on the front line battling this virus.
