Joker has quickly become the most profitable comic book movie ever made, according to Forbes.

The movie, which only came out in the beginning of October, has already topped $955 million (£747 million) and this is excluding China.

It’s only been out for five weeks and people still can’t get over how shockingly powerful the film is.

With only a budget of $62.5 million (£49 million), no one expected the DC Comics film to do this crazily well.

Other profitable comic book movies include Venom, which brought in $854 million (£668 million) on a $90 million (£70 million) budget and Deadpool which raked in $783 million (£612 million) on a production budget of $58 million (£45 million).

All this money without relying on the major market of China is a huge deal, and they deserve every moment of celebration.

It probably helped that the movie is an R-rated film, meaning psychological and torturous scenes can be more morose and higher quality.

We bet Joaquin Phoenix – who plays the Joker – never expected any of this to happen.

Not only is this movie doing so well, Joaquin also made sure to keep fans on their toes by reflecting on the possibility of a follow up to the blockbuster.

The Oscar-nominated actor admits in a new interview that part of the appeal of the comic book movie was that it was a ‘standalone’ project.

But talk of a sequel started as soon as he and director Todd Phillips were on set.

Speaking to the LA Times, Joaquin explained: ‘I guess the fear was that you’d get locked into doing something repeatedly that you don’t really care about, that doesn’t motivate you or excite you.

‘Part of the whole attraction to me [of Joker] was there was no expectation. I didn’t sign a deal to do [more movies]. It was a one-off.’
