Johnny Depp’s $50million defamation lawsuit against his ex Amber Heard has been delayed by six months.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star, 56, has been embroiled in a legal row with ex-wife Amber, 33, with both accusing the other of domestic abuse.

Amber wrote an op-ed in December 2018 for Washington Post alleging that she was a victim of domestic abuse, without naming her abuser.

But the piece prompted Depp to launch a $50million (£40million) defamation lawsuit against the Danish Girl actress, claiming that her ‘fabricated domestic violence allegations are categorically and demonstrably false’ and his lawyers argued it was an attempt to ‘smear’ his name.

Amber has since been trying to get the suit dismissed and according to reports, it has now been pushed back six months until August 2020 as Depp failed to provide vital documents on time.

According to Deadline, the actor was required to hand over documents relating to his alcohol and drug use by 15 November. It’s alleged Depp failed to do so and so the jury trial has subsequently been postponed.

The case was originally set to go ahead in December and has now been agreed a rescheduled date in six months time.

Back in July, Depp accused Amber of stubbing out a lit cigarette on his face and severing his finger with a glass bottle.

Amber’s attorney, Eric George, denied the accusations, telling People: ‘This allegation is absurd, offensive and categorically untrue.

‘This photograph proves nothing – apart from the fact that Johnny Depp is desperate to throw out any outlandish allegation to deflect attention from his physical and ongoing psychological abuse of Amber Heard.’

Amber filed for a domestic violence restraining order against Depp in May 2016, accusing him of abusing her.

Depp denied the claims, and the former couple settled their divorce out of court in August 2016 for £5.6million. The pair were married in 2015 before their divorce in 2017.
