John Mulaney Announces ‘Sack Lunch Bunch’ Netflix Special

John Mulaney will give fans the gift of a new Netflix special this Christmas with John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch, a children’s variety show that aims to “recapture the magic of that bygone television era when children sang songs about their feelings with celebrity guests on funky outdoor sets.”

“I’m John Mulaney and I am a 37-year-old man. The Sack Lunch Bunch is a group of children ages 8 to 13 who are more talented than me,” the comedian said of the special in a statement. John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch arrives on the streaming service on December 24th.

Along with the talented children, Mulaney has also recruited David Byrne, Jake Gyllenhaal, Natasha Lyonne, Tony Award winner Andre De Shields, Richard Kind, Shereen Pimentel, Annaleigh Ashford and more to join the Sack Lunch Bunch.

“The result is a collage of Broadway caliber showstoppers, comedy sketches for all ages, meditations on the unknown from children and adults, and a papier mache volcano,” Mulaney added. “It’s funny, musical, joyous, anxious and surprisingly profound.”

Mulaney previously teamed with Netflix for his and Nick Kroll’s Oh, Hello on Broadway as well as the comedian’s own Emmy-winning 2018 special Kid Gorgeous at Radio City.
