McCartney also went on to address the period of time during which he and Lennon aimed jibes at each other through their solo music, discussing his 1971 release Too Many People, on which he sang: “That was your first mistake / You took your lucky break and broke it in two.”
“We were writing songs at each other, weaponising songs,” he laughed.
But the truth of their feud was that they soon moved on and reconciled, with McCarney insisting: “It didn’t last long. We got over it, luckily.
“I feel very blessed that we got over it because if we hadn’t, and then John goes and gets killed, I don’t know how I would’ve dealt with that,” he added.
