John Cleese shares snap of last time he was stage on with Terry Jones following his death

John Cleese, 80, took to social media today to share a picture of the last time he performed with Terry Jones, who sadly passed away on Tuesday at the age of 77.

The actor, who co-founded British comedy group Monty Python in the late 1960s with Terry as well as Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam and Michael Palin, treaded the boards with the actor six years ago.

They both starred in the Monty Python Live (Mostly) stage show at London’s O2 back in 2014.

The sell-out performance was the group’s first live show together in 34 years and the first without founding member Graham Chapman, who died in 1989.

It was meant to be a one-off show but tickets sold so well it was expanded to ten shows.

The picture, which was shared by the Fawlty Towers star on Twitter, captured John and Terry on stage during the performance.

They could be seen sitting on the sofa watching TV dressed as two elderly women performing their famous Penguin on the Television sketch.

On hearing the news of his friend’s death, John paid tribute to the star and told his 5.7 million followers what he believed his “greatest gift” to be.

He said: “Just heard about Terry J.

It feels strange that a man of so many talents and such endless enthusiasm, should have faded so gently away…”

The actor continued: “Of his many achievements, for me the greatest gift he gave us all was his direction of ‘Life of Brian’. Perfection.”

True to form he signed off with typical dry wit, “Two down, four to go.”
