The first images of John Cena in Fast & Furious 9 have been revealed as the posters for the upcoming movie have dropped.

The former WWE star, 42, will make his first appearance in the franchise in F9, and while details of his character are still under wraps, his poster has been shared.

It sees John leaning against a blue muscle car (well, it’s Fast & Furious, what did you expect?), as he is set to fill the hold left by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson after he sat this movie out.

Dwanye starred in 2019’s Hobbs and Shaw alongside Jason Statham, and will not be in F9 following his reported feud with the franchise’s leading man, Vin Diesel.

John, who revealed his poster on social media, is of course not the first WWE star to have appeared in the movies, following in Dwayne’s footsteps as well as Roman Reigns who started in Fast& Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw.

He previously revealed that he felt he had to prove himself to the rest of the cast, telling Entertainment Weekly: ‘The global connection the franchise has with its fans and the respect that the franchise has for its fans is like nothing I’ve ever seen before.

‘It allowed me to really look at the absolute analytics of the project through the people who have been working some 20 years on this.

‘It really is a family atmosphere, there’s a lot of respect for the franchise, there is that expectation to deliver for the fanbase, and it’s been like no other experience I’ve been on.

‘You kind of have to earn your respect in so many ways, but ones you do you are absolutely, unexpectedly welcomed into the family. It’s been really, really special, and I’m very fortunate’.

The storyline for the upcoming film is still under wraps, with a trailer set to drop on Friday, but the teaser clip that has been released so far sees Vin Diesel’s character, Dominic Toretto, reflect on how much life has changed since he became a father.

He is seen fixing up a car with his toddler son, before Michelle Rodriguez’s character, Letty, gives the little boy a necklace Dominic had given her ‘for protection’.

She tells little Brian – named after the late Paul Walker’s character from the franchise: ‘Your daddy gave me this, and now I’m going to give it to you. It’s for protection… from what’s coming.’

The full trailer will be released on Friday and live-streamed at the launch event, called The Road To F9, which takes place in Miami over the Super Bowl weekend.

Fast & Furious 9 will be released in cinemas on 22 May.
