JOEY Essex has opened up about his friendship with Dan Edgar, admitting he had “no problem” cutting his former pal out of his life.
The reality stars became strained shortly after Dan’s romance with Joey’s cousin Chloe Sims turned sour.
Dan and Chloe first got together during a TOWIE trip to Thailand.
However, Dan, 29, soon plugged the plug on their romance and admitted to sleeping with his ex Amber Turner just three days before hooking up with Chloe, 37.
Joey, 29, who was best pals with Dan at the time, was said to be “furious” over the way he had treated Chloe.
And now, the Ex On The Beach star has revealed he had “no problem” cutting Dan out of his life.
He said: “Dan I don’t talk anymore but we don’t hate each other. I’m not bothered about it to be honest.
“I wasn’t annoyed it was on screen. The thing is I have a group of mates who I trust and I can no longer trust him.
“I introduced him to all my mates, I got him on TOWIE and then he chose to go behind my back like that. I need people in my life I can trust, I don’t need people like that.
“If I have to cut people off I will. Having said that I don’t hate him. If I bumped into him in the street I would say hello and shake his hand.”
At the time, insiders confirmed to The Sun that Joey felt “betrayed” over Dan and Chloe’s relationship.
A source said: “Joey is very protective over Chloe – they’re cousins but he’s always looked at her as a sister.
“He isn’t at all happy that Dan and Chloe are seeing each other. He knows what Dan is like and has seen how he behaves with women on holiday in Ibiza.”
However, it isn’t all bad for Joey, who has since found love with model Lorena Medina on the MTV dating show.
The couple began dating while filming Ex On The Beach in Spain.
Joey added: “I found love on the show really quickly. I went on to the show genuinely believing I wasn’t going to meet anyone. I am so picking with girls.
“I found love on TOWIE, kind of but I was so young, since then I’ve done dating shows but haven’t met anyone. Then I did this and basically fell in love at first sight. It was in 10 minutes.
“No one believed it at first because it is so quick. It was just an instant thing for both of us. I don’t know if I believed in love at first sight before but I have to now.”
