Netflix Tiger King star Joe Exotic’s husband Dillon has appeared on ITV daytime show This Morning to talk about the real man behind the headlines.
Speaking with Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford via video link from Florida, Dillon says Joe isn’t just simply wild and eccentric but also a very sensitive and romantic man.
Dillon said: “He is a pretty wild character don’t get me wrong but the series shows his more eccentric sides.
“Behind the camera he is a really were and sensitive guy.
“The producers really wanted to get the point that he is opinionated and charismatic but that is just in front of the camera.
“He is very romantic and super sweet – he is very sensitive.
“Every morning he will wake me up with coffee and a bacon and egg croissant.”
Explaining how they ended up together, Dillion continued: “When I met Joe I was in a really dark place in my life.
“Joe kept me away form the negative aspects an the negative people in my life.”
Acknowledging they got together only months after the death of Joe’s previous husband, he added: “Joe was lonely and he needed a companion.
“The initial relationship was basically companionship.
“He needed someone to be there for him and I need someone to keep me away from the negative stuff.”
Despite Joe being sentenced to 22 years behind bars last year, Dillon says he won’t ditch him for a new man.
He concluded: “I am going to stay by Joe’s side. I am not going to abandon him, that would really show lack of charter on my part.
“Joe does not deserve to be in there that long and I am going to wait for him.”
