Joe Exotic might be the star of Netflix’s new documentary Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness, however he hasn’t actually watched the series.

That’s right, after people hunkered down during the coronavirus pandemic, and binge-watched their way through the seven episodes, it turns out the main man himself is still waiting for the opportunity to give them his seal of approval.

But that hasn’t stopped the Oklahoma zookeeper from relishing in the fame, as he’s apparently received a load of fan mail from behind bars.

At the end of the series the 57-year-old was slapped with a 22-year jail sentence for murder-for-hire and wildlife charges – which has made it difficult for him to view the show.

While chatting with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy, Joe’s husband Dillon Passage spoke about his man’s antics.

‘He’s in jail, so he can’t necessarily watch it, but once the show dropped he was getting hundreds and hundreds of emails to his jail mail, and he was ecstatic,’ he said.

‘It was a lot of good feedback, and he likes attention, obviously. He calls himself Joe Exotic the Tiger King,’ the star laughed before adding that joe is ‘100 per cent’ enjoying the limelight.

But while joe hasn’t watched the show it, Louis Theroux who interviewed the Tiger King back in 2011 is all prepared to give his verdict.

‘Just finished watching #TigerKing on #Netflix,’ he said to his 2.1million followers on Twitter.

‘I have a lot of thoughts which I’ll post in a considered form in the next day or two.’

The 49-year-old then took the opportunity to preach about his own work, adding: ‘In the meantime, here is me and Joe back in the day and a link to the doc I did on player.’

Joe Exotic featured in Louis Theroux’s America’s Most Dangerous Pets documentary back in 2011, where he showed the filmmaker around the zoo.

At one point, while being interviewed by Louis, Joe joked he should ‘shoot’ the presenter if he somehow found himself in the claws of a lion.

However, he stressed this would be a humane response, telling the star that he wouldn’t stand a chance against the wild cat.

The Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness is available to stream on Netflix now. Louis Theroux’s Most Dangerous Pets is on BBC iPlayer.
