Germany boss Joachim Low admits he has mixed emotions about Kai Havertz and Timo Werner joining Chelsea – with the Bundesliga losing two of their top stars to the Premier League this summer.

Werner, 24, completed a £45.5 million move from Leipzig to Stamford Bridge back in July and fellow countryman, Havertz, followed suit late on Friday night.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder was given permission to leave Germany’s training camp in Stuttgart to finalise a switch after Chelsea agreed a £71m deal with Bayer Leverkusen for his signature.

Havertz was pictured in Chelsea training for the first time on Saturday and Low has confirmed that the youngster will play no part in Germany’s Nations League clash with Switzerland on Sunday evening.

Reacting to Chelsea’s summer business, the Germany manager said: ‘I see it as negative when such great talents as Kai are no longer in the Bundesliga.

‘But I also see the positives. The players develop their personalities abroad.

‘I think if Kai and Timo take the next step at Chelsea, that will of course help us.’

Havertz revealed his ambitions to win major silverware in his first interview with Chelsea and revealed the ‘big impact’ Frank Lampard had on his decision to join the Blues.

‘Of course he had a big impact on my decision because I loved him as a player and watched him very often,’ he told the club’s official website.

‘I think I can learn from him now he is a manager as well.

‘I think he is a very humble person and a great guy and I can’t wait to play with him and learn from him.’

Asked what he liked about Lampard as a player, Havertz responded: ‘He was very offensive like me and he loves to score goals, and I love to score goals as well so I think he will help me a lot in my position.

‘Also maybe on the things that I can improve and I can’t wait to work with him.’

Havertz is excited about the project Lampard is building at Chelsea and is looking forward to joining forces with compatriots Werner and Antonio Rudiger in west London.

‘I think it is very exciting because Chelsea has very young players and I know some of the players like Timo and Toni, he said.

‘I have played with them in the national team and they are good friends of mine and so I think this is very good for me.

‘Also that Chelsea have very young players and English players and that is very nice and a big project. Hopefully we can have many successes.

‘I want to achieve as much as possible, I try to do my best and of course it is a very big step.

‘For me it is a new country, a new culture and it is difficult maybe in the first two or three weeks, but then I think I just want to play football and have fun with the boys.

‘Of course I want to have big success and we want to win titles here.

‘Chelsea is always a big club and they want to win titles and I try to do my best so we can achieve these things.’
