Harry Potter author JK Rowling has confirmed she almost wrote an episode of Doctor Who but was too busy to step into the Tardis.

The 55-year-old revealed the magical tidbit while speaking to Graham Norton on BBC Radio 2.

‘True or false? Russell T Davies invited you to write an episode of Doctor Who,’ asked Norton.

To which Rowling replied: ‘That is true! Do you know what, I was really tempted. I get asked to do these very cool things, and I’m always so up to my eyes in my own work, I can never say yes.

‘I was really tempted, but it didn’t happen unfortunately, but there you are.’

Rowling, who was mocked by American comedian Kate McKinnon on a recent episode of Saturday Night Live, released monster tale The Ickabog for free during lockdown.

The writer has lost support from diehard fans in recent months over comments some deemed to be transphobic, leading to calls to boycott her work.

A slew of stars including Eddie Redmayne and Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness have publicly criticised the bestselling author.

Van Ness told Andy Cohen: ‘J.K. Rowling has come out, like, many times siding on a side of oppressing a trans person and siding with the idea of, you know, oppressing trans folks and basically just questioning the validity of trans people’s gender identities.’

But other celebs like John Cleese defended the mum-of-three, leaving some fans feeling disappointed.

Still, there’s no denying the stunning success of JK’s work, honoured last month with a bronze statue of Harry Potter playing quidditch atop his classic Nimbus 2000.

The work can be seen in London’s Leicester Square.

Doctor Who, which stars Jodie Whittaker in the title role, was yet another series affected by Covid-19.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall this week explained pandemic restrictions for the sci-fi staple meant filming took longer—and he had to cut series 13 from a planned 11 episodes to eight.

Filming for the latest instalment began recently and will take place over 10 months, with the team eyeing a late 2021 premiere.
