Jim Parsons and Greg Berlanti team up for historical LGBTQ-focused docuseries Equal at HBO Max
The latest project to find a home at HBO Max sheds a long-overdue light on LGBTQ history.
Jim Parsons and Greg Berlanti are teaming up to produce the documentary series Equal.
Each hour-long episode of the four-part series will tell the story of a different landmark event or undersung hero of the LGBTQ movement.

It will feature the stories of Harry Hay, The Daughters of Bilitis, Christine Jorgensen and Bayard Rustin, culminating with the Stonewall Riots and the first Pride.
They will consist of high-end reenactments, never-before-seen footage and the emotions and messages of the time, which will prove still relevant today.
Jennifer O’Connell, EVP of Original Non-fiction and Kids Programming at HBO Max said: ‘In June, we commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, which shepherded in a new era for LGBTQ+ pride.
‘While we know the story behind that fateful summer night, there’s a lot of fascinating, untold history of the patriots, artists, and thinkers who paved the way.

The producers: Berlanti and Parsons, both openly gay, will produce through their respective production companies, Berlanti Productions and That’s Wonderful Productions

Berlanti and Parsons, both openly gay, will produce through their respective production companies, Berlanti Productions and That’s Wonderful Productions.
Parsons runs That’s Wonderful with husband Todd Spiewak, having produced The Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon.
He’s most known for portraying Sheldon in the CBS parent series, which recently ended its 12-season run.
Berlanti has created a number of TV shows, including CW’s Riverdale and DC franchises, as well as directing last year’s gay teen comedy Love, Simon.
