Jessie Wallace: EastEnders’ Kat Slater 'suspended from soap after incident during filming’

EastEnders actress Jessie Wallace, 48, has played her feisty character Kat Skater for almost 20 years. According to The Mirror, the actress will be temporarily written out of upcoming storylines following an alleged incident as bosses urged her to change her ways.

An insider told the publication: “Bosses were left with no choice but to discipline her.

“During the meeting she was told to sort herself out before returning to work.

“Scriptwriters are currently coming up with a storyline to explain Kat’s temporary exit from Walford.”

It is believed the soap regular will be suspended from the soap for two months.

The insider added that Jessie has already filmed her scenes on the River Thames for the soap’s 35th anniversary special next month.

“Thankfully all of the episodes she appears in on the boat along the Thames have been shot, so her suspension didn’t cause any chaos to the soap’s big birthday week,” they continued.

“Nonetheless it’s such a shame Jessie’s out for a while because this really is such an exciting and historic time for everyone working on the show.”

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Jessie and EastEnders for a comment.

In her more recent years, she played the wife of Alfie Moon (played by Shane Ritchie), who left the soap last year.

The on-screen couple had their fair share of ups and downs, including Kat famously cheating on Alfie with his cousin Michael (Steve John Shepherd).

Jessie reprised her role on the square without Alfiie back in 2018.

On whether it was strange to return to the soap alone, she told What’s On TV at the time: “Yes. It’s always been Kat and Alfie.
