Her soon-to-be-released memoir Open Book chronicles her struggles with ‘drinking and pills’.

And Jessica Simpson has delved deeper into her issues with addiction in a new interview with Hoda Kotb, set to air tomorrow on NBC’s Today. 

‘I had started a spiral and I couldn’t catch up with myself…and that was with alcohol,’ said the 39-year-old.

She added, ‘I would say it openly to everyone. ‘I know. I know, I’ll stop soon. I’ll cut back.’ For me to cut back, like I’m an all or nothing girl, and so I didn’t know it was a problem until it was.’

The Dukes of Hazzard star also told Kotb, ‘I completely didn’t recognize myself…I always had a glitter cup. It was always filled to the rim with alcohol. 

‘I just realized that I had to surrender. It was time. I had to give it up and I was ready. I’m not going to miss another day.’

Simpson’s memoir Open Book is expected to hit store shelves on February 4th, but the star has already taken the opportunity to share many of the memoir’s darkest details.

In regards to her prior drinking addiction, the I Wanna Love You Forever hitmaker revealed that medical professionals informed her that her excessive consumption was a threat to her life.

‘I was killing myself with all the drinking and pills,’ wrote Simpson

So, in November of 2017, the star made the decision to go sober.

She confessed in the 416 page memoir that ‘giving up the alcohol was easy’ because she was ‘mad at that bottle’ and how it ‘allowed [her] to stay complacent and numb.’

Simpson -who married former NFL star Eric Johnson in 2014- recounts one particularly disturbing incident from October of 2017.

The singer and her husband were on their way to a school assembly for daughter Maxwell – with Jessica in the passenger’s seat.

‘It was 7:30 in the morning and I’d already had a drink,’ she wrote.

Afterwards, they headed out and prepped for a Halloween party they were hosting; Jessica’s costume was of her pal country singer Willie Nelson.

While she was getting ready for the party with her team gluing on her fake beard and helping her with her wig, she had ‘zoned out.’

Jessica was ‘terrified of letting’ her kids see her in that state, adding that she is ‘ashamed to say’ that she didn’t know who got them in their costumes that night.

Simpson considers Halloween of 2017 to be the day she hit her personal ‘rock bottom.’
