Jess Glynne claims she was ‘discriminated’ against after being denied entry to Sexy Fish restaurant

Jess Glynne has accused Mayfair restaurant Sexy Fish of “discrimination” after they allegedly turned her away for wearing a hoodie.

The singer, 30, said that she and a friend were refused entry to the upmarket Asian restaurant in Berkeley Square after staff made “a decision based on [their] appearance.”

The singer shared a photo of herself wearing a grey hoodie, leggings, a black baseball cap and a pair of trainers on Instagram, and wrote a lengthy caption detailing the experience.

Sexy Fish’s dress code requests that customers do not wear sportswear.

“Dear @sexyfishlondon I turned up to your restaurant looking like this and you looked me and my friend up and down and said ‘No you can’t come in’ and your restaurant was EMPTY,” Glynne wrote.

“I then went to @amazonicolondon who greeted me and my friend with pure joy and we had a banging meal with wicked service.

“@sexyfishlondon please check yourself if this is how you treat people cause it’s rude, off putting, embarrassing and most definitely not inviting.

“We were made to wait and 2 members of staff came to look at us and make a decision based on our appearance. I think the attitude of your staff needs to change as that was pure discrimination. Thanks and bye.”

Sexy Fish’s website states: “We request that guests do not wear sportswear, beachwear, ripped jeans, flip flops, sliders or workout trainers (smarter fashion trainers may be permitted).”

Glynne’s post has attracted criticism online, with Twitter users calling out the star for describing the incident as discriminatory.

A spokesperson for Sexy Fish told Standard Online: “Sexy Fish supports individuality and style but respectfully ask all our guests to acknowledge our dress code which is published on our website.

“We are huge fans of Jess, and her music and feel sorry that she feels that she has been treated insensitively.”

The restaurant serves sushi and seafood and has proved a popular haunt for celebrities since it opened in 2015.
