Jeremy Kyle must be banned from TV until 'held to account' for show, says MP

Jeremy Kyle must be banned from returning to TV until he is “held to account” for his controversial show, a top MP says.

Damian Collins says he should not be allowed on air until he is grilled about the treatment of guests – and the apparent suicide of participant Steve Dymond.

Former media committee chief Mr Collins told the Daily Star: “Any decisions on whether to pick up on previous inquiries is up to the current select committee, but I would certainly like to see them produce a final report from the Reality TV inquiry.

“I don’t think Jeremy Kyle should be allowed back on air until he has been held to account for the practices of The Jeremy Kyle Show.”

The committee says the inquiry concluded last Parliament and there are no plans for a final report.

Damian Collins wants Jeremy Kyle “held to account” over his show

The Jeremy Kyle Show was axed by ITV last year after the suspected suicide of Mr Dymond, who failed a lie detector test on it.

In the wake of the tragedy, an inquiry into reality TV was launched. But presenter Kyle refused to appear before MPs to answer questions about his role.

The committee blasted him for his “demeaning, humiliating and insulting” behaviour after seeing unedited footage.

Kyle has since signed to agency The CAN Group, which claims he will soon return “to have his say”.

Representatives for Kyle were approached for comment.

ITV tonight declined to comment.
