Jeremy Corbyn’s £1TRILLION spending spree – Warning Labour will bankrupt Britain

He also confirmed he would “immediately legislate” to hold a second referendum if Labour wins the next election. Boris Johnson has given permission for Mr Corbyn’s party to hold talks with top civil service officials in a clear sign an election is looming. The Opposition is traditionally given time before polling day to speak with Whitehall mandarins to discuss the policy changes planned if they win power.

Mr Corbyn used a speech in Northampton yesterday to set out his vision for power.

But Tories totted up the cost of his promises and warned the bill topped £1trillion.

Conservative Party Chairman James Cleverly said: “Corbyn would trash the hard work and sacrifice the British people have put in to getting our economy back on track.

“Just like Labour always do, they will bankrupt our economy, meaning job losses and no money for public services. It’s ordinary hardworking Brits who will pay the price.

“Corbyn promises the world, but all Labour will deliver is years more of confusion, delay, and indecision while they argue over what to do on Brexit.”

Mr Corbyn’s nationalisation plans, which would put rail, mail, water and the energy grid under state control, would cost at least £176 billion, according to the Tories.

Scrapping the benefits cap, which stops claimants receiving more than an average worker earns in a year, along with other welfare reforms would total £27billion, the analysis found.

A state-owned investment bank would come in at £500billion, public-backed wind farms at £79 billion, a surge in solar panels £11 billion, and scrapping tuition fees £140 billion, the Conservatives said.

Mr Corbyn set out his “alternative” Queen’s Speech ahead of the real thing next Monday.

The Labour leader claimed he was “champing at the bit” for an election despite blocking an early poll twice.

“The alternative Queen’s Speech I’ve set out today is the most transformative, radical and exciting programme ever put before the British electorate,” he said.

Mr Corbyn said that Labour would ask Brussels for a new Brexit deal and then put that to voters within six months.

“Within three months of coming to power, a Labour government will secure a sensible deal, based on the terms we have long advocated and discussed with the EU, trade unions and businesses, including a new customs union, a close single market relationship and guarantees of rights and protections,” he said.

“Within six months of being elected, we will put that deal to a public vote alongside Remain.”
