JEREMY Corbyn would smash the Tories in a general election, a Tory MP has predicted.

Johnny Mercer said that a snap poll now would see his own party get “wiped out” over Brexit.

The outspoken Tory, 37, famously made headlines a few months ago when he described the Government as a “s**t show”.

Speaking to The Spectator, he said of a potential snap election: “The party will get wiped out.

“‘We’ll get top-sliced and bottom-sliced by those who don’t want any Brexit — and those who want a Ukip version of Brexit.

“We’ll just get left behind and Jeremy Corbyn will be prime minister.”

Mr Mercer said his wife thinks he should go for the top job even though he’s never been a minister before.

“Obama was a first-time senator,” he added. “We need to put more emphasis on people who can lead a team, who can sell a vision, who can lead a country, inspire a nation.”

A NEW GENERATION

In the past he’s called for Mrs May to make way for a new generation of politicians to take over from her.

And he had some advice for those briefing against the PM from inside her own Cabinet: “Put your name to it and say it or shut the f**k up.”

The next leader should be chosen based on their outlook for the party and not their age, he said, in a thinly veiled pitch for the top job.

“It is about whether you view this place as a stage to prance around on and think you’re in a TV programme like The West Wing — or whether you see politics as a vehicle to get things done,” he added.

And he laughed off suggestions he was “too good looking to be prime minister”.

The rising star called for major changes to the leadership race rules, where Tories would be able to pick four candidates, rather than the two which currently battle it out among the members.

Theresa May has said she will step down as PM if MPs pass her Brexit deal, but still it got rejected in the Commons last week.

She’s still trying to get her deal passed by MPs but has entered talks with Jeremy Corbyn to try push it over the line.

Tories are fuming at the possibility of a soft Brexit forced onto them by a Marxist leader.
