Jeremy Corbyn smirks as activists boo and heckle journalists in chaotic anti-No Deal Brexit speech

JEREMY Corbyn smirked this morning as his supporters booed and heckled journalists who tried to quiz him at a chaotic news conference.

The Labour boss couldn’t hide his smile as activists at a speech interrupted reporters and shouted them down.

In a speech in Corby today Mr Corbyn confirmed he WOULD bring a vote of no confidence in Boris Johnson – but admitted that he wasn’t entirely sure if he could win it.

He begged MPs who wanted to stop a No Deal Brexit to join him in bringing Boris down – and got a standing ovation from his devoted supporters.

But during the Q&A session afterwards the press conference descended into chaos as audience members started shouting out and attacking reporters for questioning him.

The heckling came as:

Today Mr Corbyn was asked whether he would be able to step aside for another caretaker PM if he didn’t have the support.

But before he could even answer, several people in the audience cried: “No!”

Mr Corbyn smiled and said: “Let Andy ask his question. He’s a nice fella, it’s alright.”

But one heckler yelled: “What a disgrace!”

Another shouted from the back: “He is our leader, not the press, not Boris Johnson, or Jo Swanson!”

Another reporter was shouted at as he quizzed the Labour boss on whether he had enough cross-party support from MPs.

And activists replied with: “Shame on you!”

“There seems to be an awful lot of ‘whataboutery’ in the press at the current time,” Mr Corbyn added in another hit at the media.

An ITV reporter asked him why he felt people in his own party didn’t want him to lead a government of national unity, but was then booed by hecklers.

Mr Corbyn tried to intervene, saying: “No, Let Andy ask his question, please! I am defending your right to speak here.”

Another heckler muttered “Media lies.”

The Labour boss is set to host Opposition MPs next week for a crunch ‘stop No Deal summit’, John McDonnell revealed today.

The Labour boss also confirmed today that he wanted Boris Johnson to cancel the rest of MPs’ holiday and drag them back to Westminster to sort out Brexit.

That’s despite the fact that more than MPs voted to go on holiday just a few weeks ago.

Today No10 slapped down the chances of a recall and said it wasn’t going to happen.

James Cleverly MP, Conservative Party Chairman, said of Mr Corbyn’s speech today:  “Jeremy Corbyn has everything he can to frustrate Britain leaving the EU on October 31st, and now he has confirmed he is willing to cancel the referendum result. Politicians don’t get to choose which public votes they respect.

“Corbyn would wreck the economy, he won’t keep our streets safe and his only answer to Brexit is more delay causing more confusion – showing he’s more interested in playing cynical party political games than respecting the referendum result.

“Only Boris Johnson and the Conservatives are committed to delivering Brexit by October 31st, whatever happens, so that we can deliver the change that our country needs and the people voted for.”
