Jeremy Corbyn doesn’t have the strength to be PM and handle Brexit crisis, blast voters

JEREMY Corbyn does not have the STRENGTH to be Prime Minister and handle Brexit, voters have blasted.

A damning poll revealed nearly half of Brits don’t believe the Labour boss is brave enough to make “tough decisions” – just days after he made a bid to take over at no10.

CORBYN BLASTED BY VOTERS

Just 34 per cent backed Corbyn to make the right moves under pressure, while 47 per cent believed he didn’t have what it takes.

Brits also think that he doesn’t have the “strength of character” to lead Britain through our divorce from Brussels, the Deltapoll for the Evening Standard found.

Only 28 per cent of people thought the North Islington MP had the ability to take control in Brexit while 48 per cent thought Boris Johnson did.

Corbyn’s highest scores in the poll were for having “strong principles” – garnering 41 per cent of the vote but the PM got a higher result with 45 per cent.

He scored low for honesty with 54 per cent believing the Labour boss could not be trusted to tell the truth while Boris received a slightly lower score of 49 per cent.

However, more voters think Corbyn “believe in fairness” than BoJo – with the Labour boss receiving 45 per cent and Tory leader just 40 per cent.

CORBYN BEGS REBELS TO BACK HIM AS PM

Today Corbyn said he was “disappointed” Jo Swinson did not want to work under him as leader of a temporary government – and begged rebel MPs to back him as PM.

The Labour boss is plotting to lead a rebellion to oust Boris and called on the new Lib Dem leader to back him in No10.

However, earlier this week Swinson said he was too “divisive” and threw her support behind Tory grandee Ken Clarke and senior Labour MP Harriet Harman.

Corbyn told the BBC: “I am disappointed in Jo Swinson’s response.

“We are going to put a motion of no confidence in this government in order to have a general election so the British people have the chance on their own future and prevent a No Deal exit from the European Union.

“I thought Jo Swinson supported that position and I hope she will come around to it.”

He added: “I think it’s important that we stand up to this government and prevent a No Deal exit.

“Knowing all the damage that it will do to industry, to jobs, and stop Boris Johnson from this headlong rush into a very damaging trade agreement with the US, which will be damaging to the environmental, working and consumer conditions that we have in this country.”

“I suspect that all those people that are now making lots of noises in the media will realise that the option that will be put to Parliament of supporting a motion of no confidence against the government in order to avoid a No Deal Brexit is the most important vote they will ever do in Parliament.”

JEZ DOES NOT HAVE THE NUMBERS

However, a senior Tory minister has claimed Corbyn does not have the numbers to lead a rebellion and bring down Boris government.

Kwasi Kwarteng told rebel MPs to forget about a Labour challenge and get behind the PM as he prepares for Brexit.

The Business Minister also refused to back the idea of a unity of government led by Clarke and Harman.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme he said: “I think we will continue as a government.

“I don’t think that the Labour party have the numbers for a no confidence vote.

“And what we have to focus on is delivering Brexit on 31 October.

“All of this seems to be speculation about Ken Clarke, Harriet Harman and all these people.

“I don’t see them leading a government.

“I think we will [have a PM] and we will deliver on the mandate and referendum of 2016.”

WAITING IN THE WINGS: Clarke and Harman are ready to take over, says Lib Dem boss

Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson said Ken Clarke and Harriet Harman are waiting in the wings to lead a government of unity if Boris Johnson’s administration is brought down by rebel MPs.

Yesterday, Swinson said she would not work under Corbyn in a temporary administration but backed Tory grandee Clarke and senior Labour MP Harman as the right people to fight against No Deal.

She said: “Both of those are long serving members of parliament, the most experienced MPs in the House – the father and mother of the House.

“They put public duty first and they don’t want to see a No Deal Brexit

“If the House of Commons asks them to lead an emergency government, to get our country out of this Brexit mess, and stop us driving off that cliff to a No Deal, then yes they are prepared to do that.

“If Jeremy Corbyn has another suggestion of an experienced MP… let’s talk about it.”

TORY CIVIL WAR

A fresh civil has erupted among the Conservatives as rebels vowed to work with Jeremy Corbyn to stop No Deal.

MPs were outraged after Remainers including Dominic Grieve, Oliver Letwin and Caroline Spelman – along with independent Nick Boles – wrote to the Labour boss yesterday.

The letter said they had a “common priority” to work together to “prevent No Deal Brexit” and they welcomed his invite.

And they added: “We would be happy to meet with you as well as colleagues from other opposition parties whenever convenient in the weeks before Parliament returns.”

But they insisted they wanted to “discuss the different ways that this might be achieved” – in a hint they wouldn’t back him to be PM if it came down to it.

The letter was the most positive reaction to Corbyn’s call, which was rejected by all sides of the political spectrum.

But Tories reacted with fury at the idea that their own side was talking to the Opposition at all.

Iain Duncan Smith told The Sun: “It’s contemptible than anyone would talk to an anti Semitic Marxist about possibly forming a government.”

His plot to take power as a caretaker PM to delay Brexit again and call a fresh election has been slapped down by most of the opposition MPs – who said they will refuse to work with him.

The Liberal Democrats, Greens, SNP and Plaid all agreed they wanted to work together to stop a No Deal Brexit, but poured cold water on his demands to be installed in No10 if Boris Johnson is brought down.

Swinson said this morning that he “doesn’t command support right across the House of Commons, and he has not been much use, frankly, on the issue of Brexit”.
