Jeremy Corbyn closes gap on Tories in six separate polls with two weeks to go until Election

JEREMY Corbyn is gaining ground on the Tories with just two weeks to go until the election, a shock series of polls shows.

The Labour leader is up against Boris Johnson in six separate surveys published this week, with experts warning the race is set to “narrow”.

In a Panelbase poll published yesterday the left-wing party was up to 34 per cent – just eight per cent behind the Tories.

That marked a two per cent rise on the same time last week, while the Conservative score remained static.

Surveys by ICM, Savanta ComRes, YouGov, Kantar, and Survation all also showed Labour up by two per cent.

And one poll by Kantar concluded Mr Corbyn has enjoyed a five per cent leap in support in the space of a week.

The six surveys gave the Conservatives an average lead of nine points over Labour.

But academic Matthew Goodwin said recent results show “things are moving in the right direction for Labour” and that “there are good reasons to expect this race to narrow”.

Writing for UnHerd, he said: “There is absolutely no doubt that Jeremy Corbyn remains highly divisive and unpopular. But while the messenger is unpopular we know that this message is not.”

He added: “The Conservatives are hampered by the fact they’ve maxed out their room for growth, whereas Labour in theory has more room via squeezing the Lib Dems, Greens and Undecided.”
