Jeremy Clarkson wishes Olympic athletes would 'devote lives to something more useful'

He said that cycling, which includes races on the track, road and mountain, was now “out of hand”.

However, he said he was very impressed with the self-discipline that it takes an athlete to be the best at their chosen event.

“I am in awe of their self-discipline and their mental resolve,” he wrote in his column for the Sunday Times.

“But I wish to God that instead of focusing on, say, the triple jump — which is probably the daftest ‘sport’ of them all – they’d devote their lives to something more useful. Like business.”
