Jeremy Clarkson, 59, instructed his 2.7 million Instagram followers to “save” his friend and The Grand Tour co-star James May, 57, by following Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s advice to stay at home during the coronavirus pandemic. The former Top Gear presenter addressed the situation from an area of his house, which is currently being built, surrounded by scaffolding.
Showing off his signature sense of humour, Jeremy quipped that if the public go outside at this time, they could risk infecting “someone who is old and frail like James May” with the virus.
The star said in a video: “Normally when I’m told to do something I react by doing the exact opposite, I’ve done that all of my life, but on this occasion, no.
“I have been asked to stay at home and even though this is my home and it’s got holes in it and it’s very cold at night and there’s only one chair, I am doing what Mr. Johnson has asked me to do.
“Because the thing is, if we go outside, there’s a chance, a good chance, that we’ll infect someone who is old and frail, like James May.”

A third Instagram user commented: “Best way to put it, no one wants to kill James.”
Jeremy’s comments come after the Prime Minister addressed the nation last night to inform the public that they will only be able to leave their homes to shop for basic necessities, medical needs, one form of exercise a day and travelling to and from work if “absolutely necessary”.
Mr. Johnson said: “From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction – you must stay at home.
“Because the critical thing we must do is stop the disease spreading between households.”
Elsewhere, Jeremy issued a warning to fans that they “can’t have a selfie” when he was preparing to reopen his farm shop yesterday morning.
In view of his 7.1 million Twitter followers, Jeremy wrote: “People of Chipping Norton. My farm shop will open at 11. Only potatoes on offer. Panic buyers welcome. Don’t get out of your car.
“Two things. To maintain minimum safe distance, it’s cash only. And no you can’t have a f***ing selfie.”
One social media user suggested in response: “No Jeremy, cash will only transfer the virus, hand contact.”
Jeremy then replied: “You put it in a bucket. I put it in the freezer for three weeks. Clever eh?”(sic)
