Jeremy Clarkson: 'How much?!' Who Wants To Be a Millionaire host opens up on his wealth

Jeremy Clarkson, 59, has already asked one contestant on this year’s series of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? the million pound question.

And if he were to win that sum of money on the show, the presenter admitted he wouldn’t be too bothered.

In an interview with The Sun, he said: “I’m from Yorkshire, and Yorkshire people never ever lose the value of a Pound. Ask anyone who knows me — I’m still, ‘How much?!’”

The Grand Tour host said he has an old car and lives in an average sized property due to his principles on money.

Jeremy continued: “My great-grandfather once stood in front of Harrods, and he was a wealthy man, very Northern, and he went, ‘I could afford to buy everything in that window, but I’m not going to’ — and I operate on that principle as well.

“I’ve got a 12-year-old Range Rover and I live in a two-bedroom cottage.”

The former Top Gear presenter admitted if he was to swap places and be a contestant on the programme, he wouldn’t be certain of his own name due to the money up for grabs.

But the star said he does know who he would pick for his Phone A Friend – his brother-in-law, his sister’s husband.

“He’s tried to get on this show ever since it first began with Chris Tarrant and he rang every week and spent hundreds in phone calls and never was invited to come on,” he said.

“He can’t come on now because I think you lot might notice if my brother-in-law won £1million.”

Meanwhile, Jeremy was back with his quick wit on the latest episode of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? on Sunday night, where a contestant suffered a blunder.

During one round, Jeremy asked the contestant, Richard, the question: “Which journalist famously bagged three interviews with President Richard Nixon in 1977?”

Richard was unsure and chose his ask the host lifeline, to which Jeremy laughed: “I think it would be silly if I pretended to the audience I didn’t know…”

He went on to ask Richard if he had heard of the film Frost/Nixon, which focussed on the compelling interviews.

Jeremy added: “It is David Frost, famously. He got those three interviews with Richard Nixon and in the last one he finally confessed all about Watergate.

“There’s no doubt in my mind and that’s my final answer.”

When the focus was back on Richard, he surprisingly added: “Having thought about it, I’ve seen that film.”

Jeremy looked completely baffled by the contestant’s reply and joked: “You’ve just said that out loud on national television.”

Richard went with Jeremy’s advice and ended up taking home £16,000.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? continues Sunday at 8pm on ITV.
