Jeremy Clarkson is set to star once more in Who Wants to be a Millionaire on ITV tonight. The star of ‘The Grand Tour’ welcomes six more contestants who are given the opportunity to take their place in the hot seat. Clarkson has a broad range of interests and is often called upon by contestants to help with questions.
It appears that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have become a particular interest of his in recent years, given his frequent criticisms of the Sussexes.
This included in September last year when Clarkson ridiculed their deal with Netflix.
The Sussexes struck a deal with Netflix after they quit their royal duties and moved to California last year.
As part of their deal with the streaming giant, the couple planned to make documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming.
Clarkson said that whatever Harry and Meghan produce would be “drivel”.
The royal couple said in a statement it was their mission through the deal to create content that “informs but also gives hope”.
Clarkson responded: “They will be drivel. £100million to make shows and films that inform and give hope? Kill me.
“I’d be much better making their programmes, as I don’t give a s**t about anything they give a s**t about. Just awful.”
The Duchess of Sussex may rule out winning over Clarkson, but she is nonetheless helping to create a new animated series for Netflix called ‘Pearl’.
Archewell Productions, the company formed by Harry and Meghan, said in a statement that the programme will centre on the adventures of a 12-year-old girl who is inspired by a variety of influential women from history.
The series will be produced by Meghan, and she said in a statement that she is “thrilled that Archewell Productions…will bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history.”
When Harry and Meghan announced they would leave royal duties, Clarkson predicted they would not have a “happy ending.”
He said: “The tale of Harry and Meghan is an epic love story and I wish them both well, but I genuinely fear that it will not have a happy ending.”
The former Top Gear star also said he “doesn’t judge” Meghan for making the decision, but not without a customary quip.
He added: “Meghan Markle will have grown up imagining that princesses live in fairy-tale castles and spend all day riding around on golden unicorns, smiling kindly at muddy plebs.
“So it will have come as a bit of a surprise when she became a British royal and found, that on a wet Tuesday morning, she’d have to go to Carlisle on something called ‘a train’, to open the civic centre’s new disabled ramp.
“So, she’s obviously decided that if she can’t dine on peach and peacock and have a couple of mermaids in the gin-filled swimming pool, she won’t be opening any new toilet blocks ever again.
“I won’t judge her for that. People are allowed to resign from jobs they don’t like.”
Clarkson also set his sights on the Duke of York saying: “Resigning from the Royal Family? That’s like, you know, BIG. And not just because the next in line to the throne if my family has gone is… Prince Andrew.”
