Jeremy Clarkson has lashed out at climate change activist Greta Thunberg, blaming her for killing off interest in car shows like The Grand Tour.

The 16-year-old has become a figure head for global warning and demanding change to save the environment, but Jeremy blames her for people thinking ‘cars are evil’.

Speaking to The Sun, Jeremy declared: ‘Everyone I know under 25 isn’t the slightest bit interested in cars — Greta Thunberg has killed the car show.’

Adding that the scorn of the car is ‘in their heads’, he was supported in his claims by Grand Tour co-star Richard Hammond.

While he acknowledged he had since come around to the effects of global warming, he added that there was a better way of going about things than Thunberg’s efforts.

‘Only an idiot doesn’t change their mind when faced with irrefutable evidence,’ Jeremy said.

‘The question is, what to do about it? That’s a more interesting debate than what is happening.’

‘She’s an idiot,’ Clarkson added of Greta. ‘Going round saying we’re all going to die, that’s not going to solve anything, my dear.’

In their upcoming season, Jeremy, Richard and James May are seen acknowledging the effects of global warming, changing his mind after filming an episode in south-east Asia on bikes.

Jeremy told The Times: ‘The irony is not lost on me. A man who hosted a car programme for 30 years, limited to 7mph by global warming.

‘It’s the first time that we’ve ever admitted to there being global warming. We were completely screwed on that [trip].’

The Grand Tour: Seamen airs 13 December on Amazon Prime Video.
