Jenny Agutter 'can’t imagine how much longer' Call The Midwife can go on

Call the Midwife’s Jenny Agutter, 68, addressed the future of the hit BBC show that’s been on-air for over nine years. The actress revealed she “never signs up for future series” but her character Sister Julienne, remains one of the show’s stalwarts.

The leader of the nuns of Nonnatus House, she has a key role in the set-up, acting as a guiding hand and a moral compass not only for the sisters in her charge but the young midwives as well.

But despite it’s immense success, the telly star wonders how long it will continue to go on for.

In a recent interview, ahead of the 10th series which is set to begin on 18 April, Jenny was asked whether she will always want to be a part of the show for as long as it remains on-air.

And surprisingly enough, she replied: “Well, I can’t imagine how much longer it can go on for.

“If we carry on much longer, Sister Julienne will be able to watch a young Jenny Agutter on television!”

She added: “I never sign up for future series, but I’ve always been delighted by the scripts we get and thrilled to take part.”

With the release of series 10 just days away, Jenny explains why she thinks the show remains so popular.

“People can identify with this community in Poplar,” she shrugged.

“It really does respect and honour them,” she said.

But there were also some downsides, as with anything, where she said that people want their baby removed on a certain date by C-section, “which is sad, in a way,” Jenny admitted.

“It depends on the circumstances, of course, but childbirth is something to be experienced fully if one can.”

Jenny’s full interview is available to read now in Radio Times.

Series 10 of Call The Midwife returns to BBC on 18 April.
