Jennifer Lopez to be honoured with the Fashion Icon Award at the CFDA Awards

It’s official: Jenny from the Block is a style icon.

Jennifer Lopez is set to receive the Fashion Icon Award at 2019’s prestigious CFDA Awards. The CFDA Board of Directors chose the actress, singer and producer for her “longstanding and global impact on fashion”.

For decades Lopez has been known for her bold, risk taking and memorable outfits both on-stage, off-duty and, of course, on the red carpet.

Her most iconic red carpet moment to date has to be at the 2000 Grammys when she arrived in a semi-sheer green gown with plunging V-neckline by Versace. Google was so inundated with people trying to search for images of the boundary-breaking dress that it led to the creation of Google Image Search

Since then, the singer’s style has remained inimitable, exuding personality and confidence.

So far this year alone, the 49-year-old has attended the Academy Awards dressed like a human disco ball in Tom Ford and managed to navigate the Grammy Awards carpet in an embellished Ralph & Russo gown and matching wide-brim hat.

And, who can forget the neon pink tulle number by Giambattista Valli that needed its own private bus to be transported to the Second Act premiere in December 2018.

“Jennifer Lopez uses clothes as a way to express confidence and power,” CFDA Chairwoman and designer Diane von Furstenberg said. “Both designers and fans look forward to her fashion statements.”

J.Lo follows in the footsteps of Naomi Campbell, Beyonce, Rihanna and Pharrell Williams who are just a few of stylish stars to take home the title in previous years.

The CFDA Awards takes place on the June 3.
