Jeff Brazier pays tribute to his father who died in tragic circumstances

Jeff Brazier has opened up about the death of his father Stephen Faldo, as he admitted he’s finally been able to come to terms with the tragic events of his passing.

Stephen died in 1989 when the boat he was captain of was involved in a fatal collision that caused the deaths of 51 people.

41-year-old Jeff, who is now dad to two boys himself, said that for the first time he’s been ready to find out about what happened that day.

Taking to Instagram, Jeff shared an old photograph of his dad and wrote: “Meet Stephen Faldo, my biological father that fate was cruel enough to ensure I would never get to meet.”

He went on: “Due to all of the self development I’ve done I seem to ‘feel’ more than I suppress these days so I’ve spent most of today feeling an absence of something I wished I’d experienced, something I would have had from 13 onwards but was simply denied by some rather s**t luck.

Jeff shared a picture of his later father as he revealed he’s been learning not to ‘suppress’ his emotions over his tragic death

“These feelings today led me not for the first time to reading a few things about the events leading to his death, I usually stop myself after a while though because the whole misinformed affair was as honest and transparent as much of which we struggle with today.

“I hope others who have lived lives equally as complicated as my own will feel even just a slight sense of satisfaction knowing you’re not on your own, your feelings are valid, and being honest, even if slightly vague feels great and is to be encouraged. “

He finished: “Own your story, recognise the strengths you’ve acquired and show your vulnerabilities because we all need to be a little more human and recovery works (much) better when we aren’t bottling things up. Yes I’m encouraging you to talk, get used to it.”

Jeff has raised his boys Bobby and Freddy alone after the death of their mother Jade Goody, who lost her battle with cervical cancer in 2009.

He is now happily married to Kate Dwyer, though the pair were reported as going through a rocky patch earlier this year.

However, Jeff was happy to admit this month that lockdown has done wonders for their marriage.

Jeff Brazier admitted his marriage had hit a rough patch less than a year after they tied the knot

Speaking to Hello! Magazine, he explained: “Now we are a million times better because we took the time to invest in ourselves.

“I am so proud that the two of us have got to the point where things are more straightforward and more simple and easier than they have ever been between us.

“We are stronger for the two months that we’ve spent together with time to just focus on one another. Kate and I have had an opportunity to press pause and reset.”
