Ed Sheeran took us all by surprise this morning when he announced that he and Cherry Seaborn welcomed their first child last week.
But there were two pals that got the jump on the news before the rest of us.
Jedward have revealed that Ed, 29, told them about his bundle of joy a day before he made the news public, because these twins are seriously well connected.
The twins – John and Edward Grimes – shared a DM allegedly from Ed, sent yesterday just after 2pm, which read: ‘I love you guys. Sorry I’ve been off socials for so long, just popping in to tell you you’re awesome and hope to see you soon.
‘I’ve got a daughter now by the way, you’re gonna love her xxx.’
Jedward, both 28, tweeted: ‘Hi Twitter @Edsheeran has some news for you and us, we kept it a secret obviously.
‘Welcome Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.’
The twins’ fans shared their messages of congratulations for Ed and Cherry, as well as remarking how cool/unexpected it was that Jedward were members of the Sheeran inner circle.
The musicians have actually been mates since 2015, when Ed spotted the X Factor stars out and about in Toronto.
Sheeran explained to The Irish Sun: ‘I was like, “What the f*** are Jedward doing here?” So I shouted out to them, “Jedward!” and took them in my car and we went to my hotel. It was the World Cup and I was like, “I have to watch this France game”.
‘Then they just started being Jedward and started ordering Justin Timberlake vinyls on eBay – like loads of them at once.’
The Shape Of You singer added: ‘I love Jedward. It’s like a puppy, there is no way you can dislike Jedward.
‘There is no side to them at all that’s nasty – they are just nice. For people not to like them is weird.’
Ed even once turned down an invite to a party with Paul McCartney to hang out with the twins, so he must really, really like them.
The Grammy Award-winner confirmed today that Cherry, 28, had given birth to their daughter last week, just weeks after it was reported that Seaborn was pregnant.
And they’ve given their daughter a rather unusual name, with Ed writing on Instagram: ‘Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you… Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter – Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.
‘We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here. We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back, Ed.’
While the couple have not explained the inspiration behind Lyra’s name, it could be that the heroine of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials gave them the idea – as Jamie Cullum and Michael Sheen have also named their daughters after the character.
As for Antarctica – maybe Ed and Cherry just like the cold?
