Jay-Z ‘pulls out’ of troubled Woodstock 50 festival

Jay-Z has cancelled his appearance for the 50th anniversary for Woodstock festival weeks before the event is set to take place.

Woodstock 50 producers told The New York Times that the August 16-18 event would be held at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland northeast of the US capitol.

A source close to the situation, told The Associated Press today that Jay-Z will no longer close the three-day festival.

The news comes on the same day that John Fogerty, who performed at the original 1969 festival with Creedence Clearwater Revival, pulled out of the anniversary event.

Woodstock 50 has faced various obstacles in the last few months, including permit denials and the loss of a financial partner and a production company.

The event doesn’t have a venue and tickets have not gone sale yet.

In March organisers announced that Jay-Z, Dead & Company, the Killers, Miley Cyrus, Imagine Dragons, Chance the Rapper and the Black Keys would perform at Woodstock 50.

It is unclear which artists will perform at Woodstock 50, as artist contracts were linked to the original venue of Watkins Glen, New York – however, the venue has since now pulled out.

Other performers scheduled for the troubled Woodstock 50 include Robert Plant and The Sensational Space Shifters, David Crosby, Janelle Monae, Brandi Carlile, Country Joe McDonald, Halsey, the Lumineers and India.Arie.

The Standard has contacted Woodstock and Jay Z for comment.
