Jason Derulo was joined by heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua at the Radio 2 studios in London today – as the singer opened up about his ‘legacy role’ as Rum Tum Tugger in Cats.

The 30-year-old made an appearance on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show to talk up about the upcoming musical movie, which also stars the likes of James Corden, Idris Elba and Taylor Swift.

And he revealed that taking on the role of the iconic feline was quite a bit of a challenge.

When host Zoe Ball asked him what it was like to play the character, Jason replied: ‘He’s just in your face, the facial expressions are larger than life, he has trouble kind of staying in one idea. He may love a girl for one second but then he’s like, “nah, I’m good!”

‘So yeah, he struggles with that aspect in his life and I think it kind of holds him back from being the greatest he could possibly be.’

It’s also the Talk Dirty hitmaker’s first major film role – and he argues that his part in the movie is almost a ‘legacy role’ due to the ‘legendary’ status of the musical on which the film is based.

‘For the longest time, I was trying to figure out what would be the first film, because for me, I was a theatre kid,’ he continued. ‘I went to college for theatre, acting is really important to me, so I didn’t want to be considered a musician that’s acting, I just wanted to be considered an actor.

‘The first role is important, I mean it’s a legacy role, Rum Tum Tugger, Cats is legendary, the cast is unbelievable, there was nothing not to love, it was the perfect situation.’

Jason later posed for a photo alongside Anthony and singers Alfie Boe and Michael Ball, which Michael later shared to his Twitter.

‘Just your average Friday morning then,’ he wrote.

Meanwhile, Anthony declared that fights against Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder should happen upon his return to the UK in 2020, following his victory over fellow boxer Andy Ruiz Jr.

‘It has to happen in 2020,’ he told Zoe. ‘We’re in the same division, same era. If these guys want to make history, especially Wilder because he has the last belt, let’s get it on, let’s make history.

‘We created history becoming two-time champions of the world and I feel like we can add to that legacy in 2020.’

And when asked which man he would rather face more, Anthony replied: ‘Whoever the fans want.’

So we guess it’s up to them.
