Janette Manrara details Aljaz's 'desperate attempt' to woo her after several knock backs

Strictly Come Dancing stars Janette Manrara, 37, and Aljaz Skorjanec, 31, will celebrate their 10-year anniversary this year, four of which they have been married. Discussing how they met, the dancer candidly revealed she wasn’t interested in her now husband at first and turned him down several times.

The couple met when they both performed together in the show Burn The Floor.

Janette said Aljaz had asked her out for a drink, but she declined as she had not long come out of a relationship.

After another attempt at asking her out, the dancer echoed that it wasn’t going to happen.

“I think he got a bit frustrated,” she laughed, recalling the moment.

Aljaz said to her that it would be great to have a woman and a man’s perspective on helping him with his break-up.

She added on Jamie Laing’s Private Parts podcast with co-host Alex Mytton: “I thought, you know what, just because it’s a desperate attempt to try and buy me drink, I’ll come for it.”

The dancer went on to say that their mutual friend left halfway through the evening, leaving her and Aljaz to it.

After a few drinks, the pair “did not stop making out”.

She added, laughing: “The DJ at one point put the light on us and was like, ‘To the couple on the floor’.

“I’ve never looked back, that was it.”

The couple tied the knot back in 2017 and have credited Strictly Come Dancing for keeping them together.

Before joining the show, they respectively had plans to dance in different countries, meaning they’d have to do long distance for a while.

On how Strictly saved them, she told The Sun: “Strictly Come Dancing, it saved us. It saved us really, in every way. We were going to try the long-distance thing and see what happened.

“So when we got that phone call to join Strictly it didn’t only give us stability workwise, it saved our relationship.”
