Jamie Vardy forced off with hamstring injury as England striker crisis worsens

England have been dealt another blow as Jamie Vardy was forced off with an apparent hamstring injury in Leicester City’s clash with West Ham.

The Three Lions are set to be without Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford for Euro 2020 in the summer, while Tammy Abraham suffered an injury in Chelsea’s draw with Arsenal on Tuesday.

And while Vardy effectively retired from international duty in 2018, Gareth Southgate may be unable to even ask him to reconsider his summer plans now that he’s been struck by injury.

The Foxes striker came off on 44 minutes at London Stadium, with Kelechi Iheanacho coming on to replace him.

Vardy has been in tantalising form for Leicester this season and is the Premier League’s leading marksman with 17 goals – one more than second-placed Sergio Aguero.

A hamstring injury could rule him out for a few months.

Manchester United’s Rashford has vowed to make a quick return to the first team after he suffered a double stress fracture in his back.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Sunday: “Marcus suffered a stress fracture against Wolverhampton. I don’t know how long he will be out for, we will give him enough time to heal.

“Normally six weeks before you get going slightly probably, and then he will need time to get match-fit again.”
